Match Report

This is a short report as not present at match and relied on the wife - for the last time !!!!

Belper Town Black Sox took another three points against a strong Micklover side.

Mickleover took the lead in the first half with a well taken goal by lucas Rowland.

Belper managed to draw level after a handball, in the penalty area, left the referee with no chance, but to point to the spot.  Alex Wild stepped up to strike the ball home.

Half Time 1-1

Belper began brightly in the secong half and took the lead when Lewis Elliott drove the ball into the net from the touchline.

The match was put out of Micklovers reach when Harry Carvell, put the ball into the net for a neat finish, to make it 3-1 to Belper.

This was a tidy performance by Belper Town Black Sox, which was only marred by the news that defender Jack Riley had decided to have a break from the game.  Jack was a no nonsense defender, whose atitude and tenacity was an example to young players of all ages.  His performances this year had been faultless and he will be sorely missed. All players, coaching staff and parents wish him well.

Full time 3-1

Match Report

Belper Town Black Sox took all three points against last year rivals, Ashbourne, who after a close fought match, will feel unlucky, not to have gone home with at least a point.

Belper began quickly on the attack from the kick off, but early danger signs were there, when Ashbourne mounted a quick and fluid counter attack.

Ashbourne took the lead, early in the first half, when the dangerous Kaylem Ocran, scored on the rebound, after an excellent save fron Sam Gilbert in the Belper goal. ( 0-1)

Lewis Elliott and Alex Wild were combining well up front and had a couple of chances in the space of two minutes to equalise, but at the other end Sam Gilbert was proving to be in inspirational form in the net and twice thwarted attacks from Ashbourne.

Half way through the first half, Belper pulled the scores level.  A probing run down the right  and cross by Harry Jones , was met by the deadly Alex Wild, who stroked the bell in the Ashbourne net from just a yard out. (1-1)

Immediately, Belper were saved from going a goal down, by a strong, last ditch tackle, from Aaron Reeves, who prevented Kaylem Ocran from running clean through on goal.

However, Ashbourne did take the lead shortly afterwards, when Sam Legrice scored from the edge of the penalty area. ( 1-2)

This goal gave Ashbourne a rush of confidence, who nearly added another quick couple of goals, being prevented, only by the crossbar and a good save by Sam Gilbert.

However, Belper could easily have gone in at half time level.  As the clock ticked away, Alex Wild showed a good turn of speed, to run clean through on the Ashbourne keeper, who made a fine save to keep the score 1-2.

Half Tme 1 - 2

Ashbourne were quick out the blocks in the second half and saw an early shot go just wide.

However, it was Belper who scored next after a drive from the by line, by the impressive Harry Jones, who left the keeper with no chance.

Ashbourne were next on the attack and must have wondered what they had to do, to beat Sam Gilbert in the Belper goal.  Firstly, Sam pulled off a fantastic reflex save, from a shot from Ocran, who was clean through on goal and then pulled off another goal line save from the resultant corner.

This was proving to be a fantastic match, with real end to end action and nobody would dare predict a winner.  But in the last minutes Belper went in front, after another unstoppable shot from Harry Jones, through a packed penaly area.  (3-2)

Ashbourne tried in vain to get the third, but Declan Barry and Dominic Attenborough

This is how the match ended and both sides can reflect on a fantastic performance, both as a team and individuals.  The result put Belper within touching distance of the top of the league.

Full time 3-2

MOM     -  Sam Gilbert  for a perfect performance in net.

Match Report

Belper Town Black Sox got their first win of the season with an emphatic win over AFC Cruasders, with Alex Wild getting getting four goals, in a display that will have pleased coach Ady Jones.

Playing on a suface that was a lot better than the previous week, the scoreline suggests a walkover, but this was far from it.  AFC looked a useful side throughout the match and shocked Belper, by taking the lead, after a period of Black Sox pressure.  Ryan Toward getting the goal with a nice right footed strike into the corner of the net.

Prior to this, Belper had several close efforts, from strikers Harry Carvell, Lewis Elliott and midfielder Aaron Reeves.

The goal for AFC, didn't affect Belper , who continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.  This deservedly came, when Harry Jones, showed the deftest of touches, with his right foot, to put away a volley direct from the corner.  This goal was quality and provided a platform for Belper to go on and dominate the game.

Within a couple of minutes, Harry Jones, was in the thick of it again.  His surging run into the box, resulted in a foul and Alex Wild put away the resultant penalty.  Belper were now 2 -1 up.

AFC also looked dangerous when in possession of the ball, but any forays into the Belper half, were dealt with by the uncompromising and solid Jack Riley.

Belper soon got their third, after a good ball over the top of the AFC defence, by Dominic Attenborough, which found Alex Wild.  Alex's first shot was saved by the keeper, but he made no mistake in converting the rebound.

Belper were now growing in confidence and peppering the goal of AFC from all angles.

Alex Wild completed his first half hat-trick, with a precision curling shot with his right foot, into the corner of the net.

Half Time  Belper 4 AFC Crusaders 1

The second half started as the first had finished, with Belper looking strong going forward and after a good through ball by Jack Riley, Alex Wild pounced to score his fourth and Belpers fifth.

As in the first half, AFC had their opportunities and had the players to cause Belper problems, but on the day Belpers defence was solid. Declan Barry, Dominic Attenborough and Jack Riley were faultless.

Belper soon made it six, when the busy Harry Carvell scored with his trusty left foot, with a neat drive into the corner of the net.

Belper were now looking awesome going forward and soon got their seventh when Lewis Elliott volleyed into the right hand corner of the net, following good work and a neat pass from Aaron Reeves.

The final goal of the game was scored by Harry Carvell, whose clinical finish, rounded off an excellent run and cross from Elliott Moore.

The match was nearly capped off, when goalkeeper Sam Gilbert, playing in a temporary outfield role, had a header which narrowly missed the goal in the last minutes.

This performance from Belper was by far the best since this young side come together last year. The passing and understanding that the team demonstarted, throughout the match, was at the highest level.  However, spare a thought for AFC Crusaders, who despite the score line, played their part in a very entertaining match.  They have an excellent keeper and a team that would be a match for anybody.

Match Report

Belper Town Black Sox earned their first point of the season in a closely contested match against a well prepared and lively Melbourne side.

Manager Julie Reeves and coach Ady Jones included new signings Sam Gilbert and Harry Carvell in the squad, as they attempt to improve on a very successful and promising 3rd position last season.

The match started at a high tempo with some good defensive work on both sides restricting any attempts on goal. The most notable of these being a strong, timley last minute challenge by Harry Jones to prevent Melbourne having a clear shot at Belpers goal.

Belpers goalkeeper, Sam Gilbert's first touches of the ball and confident handling showed why Julie had brought him to the club during pre season. This in turn has allowed last year's keeper Aaron Reeves to move into the midfield, where he looked strong and pacey.

The breakthrough came after 10 minutes, when striker Alex Wild latched onto a pass, down the right and hammered the ball, into the net from 18 yards, to continue his excellent scoring record from last year and put Belper one up.

Shortly afterwards Belper went two up, when Harry Jones scored an almost identical goal as the first, after a strong and determined tussle in midfield with a Melbourne player.

However, the two goal lead was shortlived, as Melbourne pulled one back almost immediately, after a good run and piece of individual skill by Joseph Fox.  This was no suprise, cos even at two nil down, Melbourne  looked well capable of scoring goals and causing Belper problems.

The second half started as the first ended with Belper under pressure and only an excellent last ditch tackle from Declan Barry  prevented an early equaliser.

After a while Belper began to find their feet again and Elliot Moore had a number of chances to score, only to be denied by excellent goalkeeping and bad luck.  The most notable effort being a header which just skimmed the upright.

However, The dangerous Melbourne scored a second after Thomas Parkin collected the ball in the area and drove the ball high into the net.

The response from Belper must have pleased coach Ady Jones, who went back into the lead, straight from the restart, with a 25 yard pile driver from Dominic Attenborough.

With the clock ticking Belper went close with shots from Harry Carvell, Lewis Elliott and Harry Jones, but were cruelly denied a victory after a wicked deflection left Sam in the Belper goal with no chance.

The last few minutes proved to be a tense affair with both sides looking for the winner and Melbourne proving time after time, how dangerous they are on the break.

The game ended in a draw, which on reflection was a fair result. The match was played in a good spirit and although it is still early, both sides would expect to be challenging for honours next May.
