Belper Town Juniors U14's Sunday 3 v 2 Spondon Dynamos U14's - 14/02/10

Belper were pushed all the way in this tough encounter and were almost to regret a string of missed chances in this match. Town started brightly and put the visitors under immediate pressure but after only a few minutes Sponson broke away and scored against the run of play. Belper then proceeded to miss chance after chance with the Spondon keeper making a string of fine saves. Connor Mason then equalised and following a foul on Mitchell Robinson, Mason placed the resulting free kick into the net.

The second half continued in a similar fashion with Belper enjoying the balance of the possession and territory. Rhys Stokes produced another fine save from the keeper but this time Bradley Cooper was on hand to place the rebound into an empty net. Spondon then had their best spell of the game and with 8 minutes remaining Belper failed to clear a corner and the ball was hooked into the net. This lead to a nervous finale to the game but Belper held out without further scare to their goal.

This was a hard fought victory for Belper and they will need to improve on this for next weeks Cup semi final agains Sinfin.

Bradley Cooper was awarded Man of The Match for a tireless display upfront

Stockbrook Colts U14's 0 v 4 Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) - 24/01/10

After a mid season break of 6 weeks this match was always going to prove a stern test for top of the table Belper. They new they were in a game straight from the kick off on a very heavy pitch. They dominated possession throughout the first half and had a penalty saved after 8 minutes. The tackling from both sides was fair but tough. Stockbrook despite their tenacity and committment never really created a chance throughout the first half and saw just one effeort from distance sail over the bar. Connor Mason saw a good run end with a shot well saved and Belper eventually appeared to have scored when in the final seconds of the half they bundled the ball off Elliott Mason's knee, into the net. Dispite the ball appearing to be someway over the line play continued only for Alex Goacher to immediately pump the ball back into the box and Zac Beer to turn the ball into the net.

The second half continued in a similar vein with Belper building pressure and Stockbrook breaking down the wings but not testing Jamie Barlow in the Belper goal. The game was effectively settled when Luke Fenton scored with a header from a Ryan Morton corner. This goal seemed to break the home team's resistance and unfortunately their discipline as their previous tough but fair tackling degenerated to trying to kick the Belper players out of the game. To their credit though the Belper players kept their heads and a third goal followed when Bradley Coope turned in a cross from Ross Holland. Connor Mason completed the scoring when from a free kick the home keeper could only turn the ball into the roof of his net.

This was an excellent performance from Belper who deserved credit not just for their football but for the teams attitude and discipline. Alex Goacher was named Man of the Match for a commanding display at centre half.

Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) 1 v 2 Chesapeake U14's - 13/12/09

Belper were left to rue early missed chances as their long winning streak came to an end and Chesapeake completed a league double over them. Charlie McCormack played a ball inside the right back which Connor Mason ran on to but saw his shot go over the bar. McCormack then saw an effort well saved after a fine turn and shot. From a corner the ball was then cleared off the Chesapeak line. Against the run of play Chesapeake broke up the middle of the pitch and opened the scoring. Belper almost replied immediately but again the ball was scrambled off the visitors line. McCormack then headed over the bar from a corner and Sam Pearson hooked a shot over the bar. Chesapeake fired a shot narrowly over the bar before again scoring against the run of play. They broke down the right and an excellent cross produced a tap in at the far post. Belper still had chances to score and Connor Mason had an effort cleared off the line after rounding the keeper.

Early in the second half Zac Beer saw a header go over the bar and Chesapeake shot wide after a flowing move. 11 minutes into the second half Mitchell Robinson produced a superb cross from the left which McCormack headed home. Bradley Coope saw a shot deflected wide for a corner but Belper produced few goal scoring opportunities in the second half. Late in the game Chesapeake rounded Jamie Barlow in the Belper net but the defence managed to clear the ball off the line and Barlow made a further late save before time ran out for Belper.

An excellent game which could have gone either way but the result leaves everything to play for in the second half of the season.

Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) 2 v 1 Pride Park Juniors U14's Cup Quarter Final - 06/12/09

Top of the table Belper Town were made to battle all the way against the team sitting top of the second division in this age group. Playing on a pitch that was barely playable the home team found it difficult to impose their game against a well disciplined and determined Pride Park team who acquitted themselves admirably from start to finish.

The game was played almost entirely in the visitors half but Pride Park created the first clear cut chance of the game which Jamie Barlow saved well. Bradley Coope then broke down the right and his cross was turned onto the bar by the excellent visiting keeper. Belper soon had the ball in the net  but this was ruled out for a foul on the keeper. Mitchell Robinson saw a shot from distance well saved and Connor Mason forced another save direct from a free kick.

The second half continued in the same fashion, Charlie McCormack played an excellent ball to Luke Fenton who was dispossessed by an excellent last ditch tackle. Coope then put the ball right across the visitors area where Connor Mason saw his effort  cleared off the line. Ross Holland then put Fenton in on goal who found the net with a chip despite the keeper getting a hand on the ball. Straight from the kick off Pride Park attacked up the Belper right and from an acute angle the striker finished well. With extra time looking imminent Mitchell Robinson poked home the winner from a corner.

An entertaining game played in a good spirit in very difficult conditions. Elliott Mason was named Man of the Match for a faultless display at centre half.

Spondon Dynamos U14's 0 v 5 Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) - 29/11/09

Belper failed to reach the heights of there recent performances but still managed to run out comfortable winners in a lacklustre game against a determined Spondon side. Rhys Stokes shot wide early on following a good ball from Luke Fenton and then had a cross cleared off the line. Fenton then saw a shot rebound off the keeper and then place a header in the keeper's hands. Spondon then broke away and Jamie Barlow saved well when the Dynamo's striker was through on goal. From a cross Spondon then hit the post. Belper then broke the deadlock when a cross from Fenton was headed into the net by Stokes. Belper then gave the ball away on the edge of their own area and Barlow again saved well. Charlie McCormack then collected the ball from a weak Spondon goal kick and a beautifully weighted ball found Stokes who slotted home his second. McCormack then missed a good opportunity when he latched onto another weak goal kick but his effort went wide.

Early in the second half McCormack saw a chip go narrowly wide. Belper were then denied a third goal when following a clash between goalkeeper and defender the ball broke to Connor Mason who placed the ball in the net. Somehow a free kick was awarded to the home team and the goal disallowed. The game was quickly settled though when McCormack scored 2 quick goals, both of these coming from weak goal kicks. Sam Pearson finished the scoring when he planted a shot into the net from 12 yards.

Jamie Barlow was named Man of the Match for making several vital saves whilst the game was still in the balance.

Littleover Dazzlers U14's 1 v 3 Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) - 22/11/09

Ilkeston Town Juniors U14's 2 v 5 Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) - 15/11/09

Belper had to work tirelessly from start to finish to secure this victory and even though they never reached the heights of their recent performances they secured a vital win.

Belper started the better of the two teams and created early pressure. Charlie McCormack fed a ball to Rhys Stokes who saw a fine shot well saved but Bradley Coope pounced to head in the opener. After 9 minutes ross Holland cut in from the right wing and fired in a shot to make it 0-2. McCormack then fed Mitchell Robinson who shot narrowly wide. Belper's central defenders of Alex Goacher and Elliot Mason were repelling all of the home teams efforts. A lapse in concentration saw Ilkeston pull a goal back after 17 minutes and shortly afterwards had another effort ruled out for offside and then a further goal bound effort cleared off the line. The game was much more even now but Belper also had an effort ruled out for offside.

Charlie McCormack poked in Belper's 3rd following a goalmouth scramble but Ilkeston struck back quickly. Elliott Mason headed narrowly over from a corner and Belper were perhaps a little fortunate to score their 4th when McCormack deflected the ball into the net from a clearance. Luke Fenton produced a fantastic run through the home defence but put the ball over the bar. Ilkeston then put the Belper goal under a period of sutained pressure and Jamie Barlow made several important saves. Belper eventually made the game safe when Holland headed the 5th in the final minutes.

An important win against a team that beat them 3 times last season. Mitchell Robinson and Luke Fenton were named joint Men of the Match

Belper Town under 14's v Heanor Lions (Cup) - 8/11/2009

Belper Town Juniors under 14’s took a rest from league action this weekend and entertained Heanor Lions in the 2nd round of cup.  Coming into this game off the back of five successive league victories and buoyed by the return of key players from illness, Belper started the game brightly, with the front pairing of Rhys Stokes and Charlie McCormack causing the visiting defence some early problems.

Playing into a stiff breeze, Belper quickly got into their stride and within the first five minutes the visiting keeper had to make some smart saves to deny both Mccormack and Conner Mason.  The best chance to open the scoring came from the penalty spot when the Heanor defender clumsily brought down a Belper player in the penalty area. However, with the goal at his mercy the normally reliable Mitchell Robinson spurned the opportunity by putting the ball just wide of the upright.

It wasn’t long before the goals did arrive, with Rhys Stokes fizzing a low shot past the Heanor goalkeeper and Connor Mason stepping up to convert a second Belper penalty.  Belper’s dominance continued throughout the first half, with Heanor’s only real attempt on goal being a speculative long range which hit Jamie Barlow’s crossbar and dropped dangerously into the Belper penalty area before being cleared by Alex Goacher.  Belper went into the half time break leading 4-0.

The second half of the game followed a similar pattern to the first, with Belper controlling the possession and generating some quality penetrative football.  One of the second half goals was scored by Connor Mason giving him his hat trick and another was a definite cross by Ross Holland which flew past the keeper and into the net.   Holland was of course was adamant he meant it.  To their credit, Heanor continued to battle hard and used the physical part of the game to put Belper under some pressure.  However, with Belper showing some real spirit this season, Heanor could not prevent Belper increasing the score line at regular intervals.  With the game secure, Belper were able to give the whole squad a run out, eventually winning the game 9-0.

There were notable performances from a number of Belper players during the match, but for a solid team performance the man of the match was given to the whole squad.

Sinfin Sharks U14's 4 v 7 Belper Town Juniours U14's (Sunday)

Belper took early advantage of the strong wind at their backs and raced into a 4-0 lead. Bradley Coope poked the first into the net, Ross Holland fired into the net after 15 minutes. From a huge punt by keeper Jamie Barlow, Charlie McCormack headed the 3rd following a fumble by the keeper and Luke Fenton headed the fourth. Belper then lost concentration and conceded 2 late goals in the half to leave the game wide open with the home team now having the advantage of the conditions in the second half.

However, Belper continued to dominate the play and McCormack saw a header go over the bar and from a well delivered free kick from Connor Mason, Ross Holland scored with a fine header. Jamie Barlow produced a good save but the Sinfin pulled another goal back with a lob. McCormack was then brought down for a penalty converted by Mitchell Robinson and Belper then had to scramble the ball away after a corner. George Bradley played an excellent ball down the right which Rhys Stokes ran onto and fired in the seventh. Sinfin still had time to pull a further goal back with a shot from distance that went in off the post.

Another excellent win this time against one of the leagues best teams. Ross Holland was named Man of the Match for a superb display on the right of midfield.

Sunday 25th October

Belper Town under 14s Sunday v Gad Khalsa

Gad Khalsa were the visitors as Belper under 14’s tried to end the month of October unbeaten.   With key players away through illness and holiday, and a number of other players clearly feeling the effects of flu, Belper anticipated having to dig deep to play against a team who they had only previously played once before in a cup game a couple of seasons ago.  In truth, the game was a very one sided affair, with Belper again running amok and notching up their second double figure score in successive weeks.

Playing into a stiff wind, Belper opened the scoring on three minutes when Bradley Coope latched onto a header from Charlie McCormack, smashing the ball past the helpless Gad Khalsa goalkeeper.  Minutes later, Conner Mason fired over following some excellent hold up play from Coope.  Belper then began to get into their stride and played some excellent free flowing football.  Goals came thick and fast throughout the first half with McCormack, Coope, Ross Holland and Luke Fenton all helping Belper to first half score line of  8-0.

In the second half, Belper played with the wind and soon after the re-start Mason played his way into the penalty box, only to be brought down just as he was about to shoot.   Stand in keeper Mitch Robinson buried the resulting penalty with aplomb.  Mason was rewarded for his efforts with a goal a short time later.  The final quarter saw the excellent defence of Bradley, Goacher, Mason and Morton get into attack mode.  Elliot Mason scored his goal by slotting home from a corner and Alex Goacher opened his account by driving through a number of challenges before smashing the ball into the bottom corner from about 20yards.

To their credit, Gad Khalsa kept playing and perhaps their only shot on goal was saved by Robinson under his crossbar.  Almost on full time Ross Holland made the final total 15-0 to Belper by turning and hitting the sweetest of shots passed the diving keeper.

Belper will undoubtedly face much stiffer opposition as they go into the next month of games.  Elliot Mason was named Man of the Match.

Sunday 18th October

Normanton Allstars U14's 1 v 14 Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday)

Belper ran amok against a very poor Normanton team and almost ran up a cricket score. In truth had Belper scored from half of the other chances they failed to convert, they could have doubled their score! Normaton put up some early resistance but after 2 well taken goals by Connor Mason, the game in truth was over. Belper scored 5 in the first half including a retaken penalty from Mitchell Robinson and a thunderous shot from 16 yards by Rhys Stokes. Mason also missed the chance for a hat trick by having a penalty well saved.

In the second half the floodgates opened, Charlie McCormack scored 6 and had 2 others ruled out for offside, Rob Thompson got 1, Sam Pearson scored the best goal of the match with a fine shot from the edge of the box, Stokes scored a second and Luke Fenton scored the other goal. Normanton scored a late consolation goal when they scrambled the ball into the net after charging down a clearance.

Belper will have much stiffer games than this in the future but you can only beat what is put in front of you, and they certainly did that!

Mitchell Robinson was named Man of the Match for a commanding performance in the middle of the pitch

Sunday 11th October

Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday) 4 v 1 Mickleover 95 U14's

Belper produced argueably their finest performance in 4 seasons of 11 a side football. Belper dominated the game from the start and it was only an outstanding performance from the visiting goalkeeper and a string of fine saves that kept the score respectable. Charlie McCormack combined well with Connor Mason who fed Luke Fenton whose effort produced the first of many saves. From the resulting corner McCormack headed over and Mason soon floated a shot narrowly over the bar. Fenton then put McCormack through but this time the effort went wide and another header from a corner went over. A rare touch for Jamie Barlow in the Belper net saw him punt the ball down the ground beyond the defensive line and Mason reacted well to steer the ball into the net off the post. The second goal followed quickly when a weak goal kick found Fenton who placed the ball in the net from 30 yards. A string of saves followed from efforts from Zac Beer, Mason and McCormack and there was no further score before half time.

Belper failed to produce quite as many chances in the second half and to their credit Mickleover's performance  never lacked effort however they were outplayed throughout the game. Fenton produced a cross from the left that Rhys Stokes headed wide. Mason then produced a fine cross that Fenton looped into the net with a fine header. From a free kick the ball was scrambled narrowly wide of the Mickleover goal and McCormack then rounded the keeper before loosing his footing and the opportunity to make it 4. Jamie Barlow made a fine save when a throughball was latched onto by a visting striker. The best goal of the game came from an excellent cross from Ryan Morton, Ross Holland headed the ball back across the box for Bradley Coope to volley into the net. Mickleover scored a consolation goal that there attitude perhaps deserved but in truth the scoreline flattered them.

This performance illustrates the massive improvement Belper have made this season and this was reflected in the fact that Mickleover won the corresponding fixture 4-0 last season. Connor Mason was awarded Man of the Match but again it was the team performance that shone through.

Sunday 4th October

Chesapeake U14's 2 v 8 Belper Town Juniors (Sunday) 1st Round Cup

The scoreline of football games does not always reflect the match itself and this was certainly true in this case. How Chesapeake managed to score twice and Belper not reach double figures was beyond those present at this match!

Belper had never beaten or drawn with Cheseapeake at any level at this age group, so this result gave immense satisfaction to everyone involved with the team. Belper dominated from start to finish and opened the scoring early when Connor Mason found the net from close range. Charlie McCormack then scored with a header from a well delivered corner from Ryan Morton. McCormack created the third when he pulled the ball back from the byeline only for a defender to put through his own net. The first half scoring was complete when Luke Fenton saw a shot come back off the bar and McCormack walked the ball into the net.

Chespeake upped their game at the start of the second half and scored direct from a corner. However any doubts about the eventual outcome of the game were settled when Mason scored with a shot into the far corner and a further goal off the near post. Fenton headed the 7th from a free kick before Chesapeake scored a second from a suspicously offside position. Fenton then wrapped the scoring up with a free kick high into the home teams net.

Belper could easily have been awarded at least 3 penalties, with the home referee blowing for 1 and then waving play on!

All in all a thoroughly satisfactory display and result which can only help to boost the teams growing confidence.

Man of the match could have been awarded to any number of players but Luke Fenton was deservedly given the honour

Sunday 6th September

Duffield Dynamos U14's 1 v 4 Belper Town Juniors U14's (Sunday)

Belper got their season off to an excellent start but they certainly didn't have it all their own way in this local encounter. Playing on a very poorly prepared pitch Belper missed several early chances. Zac Beer lobbed narrowly wide, Rhys Stokes shot wide and from a corner Charlie McCormack headed wide. An excellent cross from Connor Mason saw Sam Pearson put an effort off target. Duffield also had good early chances and were denied by Alex Goacher lying on the ball! Duffield then rounded Jamie Barlow in the Belper net only to see a fantastic goal line clearance from Ryan Morton. Kyle Nicholson then shot over the Belper bar and Jamie Barlow saved another attempt on goal.Belper then conceeded a soft goal when a through ball could have been cleared by either of 2 defenders. However, the Belper defence let the Duffield player get in front of them and he placed a shot into the Belper net. Belper responded quickly and with almost the last kick of the half Elliot Mason found Zac Beer who made it 1-1.

Belper dominated the 2nd half and Mason saw an early shot saved. Nicholson had a shot deflected wide for the home team and saw a header from the corner go over. From a free kick the Duffield goal keeper caught well and then from a corner Luke Fenton saw an effort rebound off the post. Duffield then defended a free kick that was pumped deep into their half but the ball fell sweetly for Mitchell Robinson who from 35 yards shot into the roof of the net. Belper were now on top and a superb run from Connor Mason ended with his lob nestling in the net. Robert thompson missed a good opportunity to make it 4 but McCormack soon turned in an effort from a corner to complete the scoring.

An excellent performance from Belper with all players coming out with credit and Ryan Morton being named Man of the Match for a superb performance at left back.
